The Steel Drum is Leaking

You are successful. You execute at a high level in business, in fitness, and in life. But you can’t stop abusing this.

You’ve promised yourself "never again." But the grip is tighter. The stakes are higher. And you’re slipping deeper.

Your arousal baseline is wrecked. You are watching more, hiding more, and lying more. There is a distance in your relationship, and it is growing. You are watching things you swore you’d never watch and doing things you swore you’d never do.

You have compartmentalized your secrets. You have locked them away in a steel drum.

But the drum is leaking—and it’s toxic.

Deep down, you know this could destroy your family. And worse, there is a voice inside whispering that you are broken. That you are a fraud.

I am here to tell you that you are not broken.

I’ve had the great privilege of working with some of the most successful men on the planet. My clients lead billion-dollar companies, sit in the same rooms as presidents and world leaders, run hedge funds, perform on the biggest stages, play and coach in every professional sport (including an Olympian).

My clients are high-performers who need sustainable results quickly, and they certainly don’t want to call themselves a sex or porn addict for the rest of their lives.

The 6 Truths That Change Everything

Here are the truths that changed everything for me - and will completely reframe how you handle your compulsive behavior.

Truths Accordion

Let’s get one thing straight: The compulsive behavior is not the problem. It is the symptom.

Every time you obsess over it, every meeting that is about “not doing it,” and every time you label yourself with it, you are focusing on the wrong thing.

What you resist, persists.

I have never worked with a man whose primary problem was the pornography itself. The real problems are:

  • Lying
  • Hiding
  • Compartmentalizing
  • Lack of empathy
  • Poor coping skills
  • Fear, Shame, and Stress

Until you deal with the drivers, you will always lose to the symptom.

Most men are trying to solve a modern digital problem with an 85-year-old model built for alcohol. You know the one: Shame-based labels and 12-step meetings where you admit you are "powerless."

The "Addiction Model" has been rejected by every major psychological health organization on the planet, including the APA and the WHO.

Why? Because it is outdated, unscientific, and symptom-focused.

It asks you to identify as the very thing you are trying to stop: "Hi, I'm Craig, and I'm an addict." That is not empowering. That is Identity Damage.

You don’t go back to the behavior because you are "bad." You go back because it is meeting a need.

It helps you numb, cope, escape, feel pleasure, or feel free. Sometimes it is a rebellion. Sometimes it is an "F-You" to your spouse when resentment builds.

Here is the truth: Your needs are going to get met.

The only question is: Will they get met reactively (acting out) or proactively (healthy structure)?

Until you create structured ways to meet those needs, the loop always wins.

This is the golden rule of behavior change. Most systems are all "Stop." No "Start." No structure. No replacement.

If your recovery model isn’t centered on habit creation, it is set up to fail. You cannot just "white-knuckle" sobriety. You must build a life so great that the old behavior no longer fits in it.

A trigger isn’t a failure. It’s a flare.

It is your nervous system saying: "SOS. I’m overwhelmed. I’m disconnected. I need something."

You’ve been taught to fear your triggers. But when you understand that a trigger is just letting you know you have a need, you can respond like a leader, not a prisoner.

You know that part of you—the one that lies, hides, and sneaks? Let’s call it your "Addict Part."

It is not evil. It is not a disease.

It is a part of you that was trained—often since childhood—to escape discomfort and avoid pain. The more you try to kill that part, the more power you give it. You cannot beat yourself into submission.

You must lead that part. That is neuroscience. That is identity work. That is real healing.

TRUTH #1: It’s Not About the "P-Word"

Let’s get one thing straight: The compulsive behavior is not the problem. It is the symptom.

Every time you obsess over it, every meeting that is about "not doing it," and every time you label yourself with it, you are focusing on the wrong thing.

What you resist, persists.

I have never worked with a man whose primary problem was the pornography itself. The real problems are:

  • Lying

  • Hiding

  • Compartmentalizing

  • Lack of empathy

  • Poor coping skills

  • Fear, Shame, and Stress

That is what drives the loop. Until you deal with the drivers, you will always lose to the symptom.

TRUTH #2: The Model You Are Using is Broken

Most men are trying to solve a modern digital problem with an 85-year-old model built for alcohol. You know the one: Shame-based labels and 12-step meetings where you admit you are "powerless."

The "Addiction Model" has been rejected by every major psychological health organization on the planet, including the APA and the WHO.

Why? Because it is outdated, unscientific, and symptom-focused.

It asks you to identify as the very thing you are trying to stop: "Hi, I'm Craig, and I'm an addict." That is not empowering. That is Identity Damage.

TRUTH #3: All Behavior Is Need-Seeking Behavior

You don’t go back to the behavior because you are "bad." You go back because it is meeting a need.

It helps you numb, cope, escape, feel pleasure, or feel free. Sometimes it is a rebellion. Sometimes it is an "F-You" to your spouse when resentment builds.

Here is the truth: Your needs are going to get met.

The only question is: Will they get met reactively (acting out) or proactively (healthy structure)?

Until you create structured ways to meet those needs, the loop always wins.

TRUTH #4: To Break a Habit, You Must Make a Habit

This is the golden rule of behavior change. Most systems are all "Stop." No "Start." No structure. No replacement.

If your recovery model isn’t centered on habit creation, it is set up to fail.

You cannot just "white-knuckle" sobriety. You must build a life so great that the old behavior no longer fits in it.

TRUTH #5: Your Triggers Are Needs Indicators

A trigger isn’t a failure. It’s a flare.

It is your nervous system saying: "SOS. I’m overwhelmed. I’m disconnected. I need something."

You’ve been taught to fear your triggers. But when you understand that a trigger is just letting you know you have a need, you can respond like a leader, not a prisoner.

TRUTH #6: Your ‘Addict Part’ Is Trying to Help

You know that part of you—the one that lies, hides, and sneaks? Let’s call it your "Addict Part."

It is not evil. It is not a disease.

It is a part of you that was trained—often since childhood—to escape discomfort and avoid pain. The more you try to kill that part, the more power you give it. You cannot beat yourself into submission.

You must lead that part. That is neuroscience. That is identity work. That is real healing.

The Solution

The Mindful Habit® System

The cure isn't abstinence. It is the aggressive pursuit of a great life. Our system is structured around three transformative phases:

AWARENESS

(Stop the Bleeding)

We dive deep into your patterns.

  • Take control of your nervous system.

  • Regulate your triggers in real-time.

  • Identify the childhood patterns shaping your behaviors.

Result: No more reaction spirals. Just control—fast.

ACCOUNTABILITY

(Retrain the Brain)

The more reactive you are, the deeper the wound.

  • Retrain the parts of you that hijack control.

  • Build self-compassion and emotional regulation.

  • Meet your needs proactively.

Result: Rewire your responses at the neurological level.

ACTION

(Sustainability)

"You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems." — James Clear

  • Build a personal dashboard so you always know if you are on track.

  • Create a system that evolves with you.

  • Identity Shift: You don't just say "I can't do that." You say, "I don't do that. That's not who I am."

Result: Permanent transformation, not temporary abstinence.
